5. Flaxseed

Whorefroe

Flaxseed is easy to find in just about any store today. They are inexpensive and act as a  natural anti-inflammatory agent. They are good for treating joint pain for a variety of reasons:

  • Flaxseed is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids,  which help strengthen the body’s immune system and fight any infections that cause inflammation in the joints. It is a good idea to try to get its omega-3 fatty acids from a vegetarian source because those that come from animal fats may have the opposite effect (i.e. more inflammation).
  • How to consume flaxseed:  You should consume one tablespoon of flaxseed a day (20 grams). They can be eaten alone or used in salads. However, they should never be overcooked as this will cause them to lose many of the good omega-3 fatty acids and moreover will be digested incorrectly. Remember: Eat them raw on a daily basis. The body will adapt to the extra vitamin intake and help reduce inflammation in the joints.

Always give the natural anti-inflammatory drugs a try before you throw yourself over ibuprofen. And most importantly, always follow the doctor’s advice first and foremost.
